100% of our fish is purchased in accordance with WWF recommendations. Moreover, the Coop restaurants are the only MSC and ASC-certified retail catering outlets in Switzerland. The MSC label denotes products from sustainable fisheries. It guarantees that the catches of MSC-certified fisheries can be identified up to the end consumer and are not mixed up with conventional products. The ASC certificate highlights responsible fish farms. Products with the ASC label have been assessed according to rigorous environmental criteria and for social aspects.

$What$ is MSC committed to?

The MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) is a non-profit organization with the aim of making fishing sustainable and preserving fish stocks in our oceans for future generations. According to the "FAO State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture (SOFIA) Report 2018", 33.1% of the world’s fish stocks have been fished beyond sustainable limits. The WWF’s "Living Blue Planet Report 2015" reveals that marine populations decreased by almost half (49%) between 1970 and 2012. Overfishing, illegal and destructive fishing are deciding factors behind this problem. These developments not only jeopardize species and ecosystems, they also have serious implications for coastal communities. Overfishing occurs when too many fish are caught and not enough adult fish are left to multiply and ensure the continuation of populations.
